Cowboy is truely a success story.
He began his life in this world as the only survivor of a c-section that went terribly awry. Of eight pups, Cowboy was the only one to make it through the surgery. Following the surgery, his mother suffered some complications which required her to stay in the hospital for another week, leaving us to hand feed and care for Cowboy. After a very rough first two weeks, his strength and perseverance pulled him through what could have been a tragic end, but instead, turned out to be his success story.
Cowboy endured some normal nutritional issues seen in orphaned pups which could have been a contributing factor to his bout with Panosteitis. After entering him in his first show at 6 months old and suffering the humiliation of being excused from the ring when he started limping all of a sudden, it was inevitable that some changes needed to be made in our efforts to make him a Champion, and save both him and ourselves from further humiliation! Knowing he would eventually (and fortunately) out-grow these problems, we elected to wait until his panosteitis was over and give him some time to mature before we showed him. We left his first, and what was to be his last, show for a while, and went back home to play the waiting game. Finally, at 13 months his problems were gone!!
With the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog National Specialty right aound the corner, we thought that just prior to that event would be a good time to start showing him. His first time back in the ring was April 26th, 2003. He dominated the regular classes that weekend and the following weekend by being Winners Dog 4 our of 4 times and Best of Winners 3 our of 4 times. The third weekend was the National Specialty Weekend. Having been defeated at the National Specialty by being second in the 12-18 month dog class, we continued to show over that show weekend at the supported entries held in conjunction with the National Specialty. Over those two days of showing, he was awarded Winners Dog twice for two 5 point majors, an AWARD OF MERIT, and Best of Winners with over 60 swissies entered each day, These two 5 point majors were all he needed to complete his Championship all within only three weeks, from April 26th to May 18th, 2003!
The son of two true champions.....
He is truely a CHAMPION and an incredible up & coming dog!!!
